Dredge Second Lake
The first step in restoring Second Lake is dredging the south end.
Exciting news! The Friends of the Trempealeau Lakes are starting our first big project to restore, preserve, and improve our unique lake system. The Wisconsin DNR has granted us a permit to dredge the south end of Second Lake. Our goal is to raise $500,000 to support this project. Please join the Friends and donate to the Dredge Second Lake campaign.
Dredging will focus on the south end of Second Lake where there is the best public access
9.25 feet channels will be cut on each shore of Second Lake
These channels will be connected by additional dredge cuts
Because there is no significant sedimentation from outside water flow, the dredging depth is expected to stay stable for over fifty years
What’s the plan?
Improve the habitat for fish and critters
Provide a quality place to shore and ice fish
Enhance fishing accessibility for kids, families, and people with disabilities
Restore water quality and reduce vegetation
Open more navigation for canoes and kayaks
Why dredge the south end of Second Lake?
The dredge material will be pumped to a field managed by the DNR
The DNR will use this material to help reforest this public land, further enhancing our local hunting and recreational areas
